SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —
More than 40,000 customers lost power Wednesday night throughout Sacramento County, according to SMUD.
The power outages were first reported around 8 p.m. Just before 8:30 p.m., SMUD restored power to about 10,000 customers. Around 8:40 p.m., another 29,000 customers got their power back. By 9:45 p.m., a few dozen customers were still without power.
Two major outages initially impacted the 40,828 customers. SMUD said the cause of one was a car crashing into a power pole. It's unclear what led to the other power outage.
SMUD customers in the Arden area were mainly affected by the outages. Some parts of Natomas and surrounding areas were also impacted by the outage
